Children and young people from Claire House Children’s Hospice are set to switch on the Christmas lights at the UK’s largest designer outlet, McArthurGlen Cheshire Oaks.
On Thursday 15th November four children and young people from the Bebington-based facility will switch on the lights, including George Johnson, aged 2, from Wallasey. George has spent 90% of his life in hospital and is often cared for by the Claire House Hospice to Home team.
George’s mum Emma said: “George is due to go into hospital in the next couple of weeks for an operation and may be in over Christmas. Switching on the lights at Cheshire Oaks is an early Christmas celebration for our family and we couldn’t be more excited.”
This year, the centre is inviting the public to join them in their aim to host the UK’s largest ever Christmas-singing event, starting at 7pm. Celebrity Vocal Coach Yvie Burnett, who has been a coach on the X-Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent and The Voice will be leading the singing, with all proceeds raised over the festive period going back to Claire House.
The light display includes the UK’s largest Christmas tree at over 90ft with 80,000 baubles and 100,000 fairy lights.
The children and young people have been given the privilege after McArthurGlen Cheshire Oaks chose Claire House is its Christmas charity. The centre will be supporting the hospice in various ways including hosting a car raffle, where participants are in with the chance of winning a new Skoda Citigo, courtesy of Mitchell Group.
Abi Smith, Area Fundraising Manager for Claire House said: “Our children and young people have joined an elite group of people who’ve had the privilege of switching on the lights and we couldn’t be more proud or delighted.
“To have the opportunity to raise the profile of Claire House in this way is absolutely amazing and we’d like to thank Cheshire Oaks for giving our families this opportunity.”
Brian Handley, Centre Manager at McArthurGlen Cheshire Oaks, says, “We are delighted to be hosting a family friendly Christmas event that is all about giving back to the community. Local residents have the unique opportunity to be part of something really special and we could not be happier to be working with Claire House and we’re so excited to be hosting the UK’s largest festive sing-along to raise money for such a good cause.”
The Christmas lights switch on takes place on Thursday 15th November from 7pm with late night shopping available until 10pm. |
