The Hospice Staff

Trained Nursing Staff

The hospice always has two registered childrens nurses working on each shift, one of which will coordinate the care team and oversee the smooth running of the shift.

The Care Team
Has a multi disciplinary approach with a wide variety of skills and qualifications to best meet the needs of the children and young people. The team consists of childrens nurses, registered nurses, assistant care team members (ACTMs), physio therapists, play specialists, music therapist, aromatherapist.

Within this team there are six mixed staffing groups lead by a team leader, which as part of their role ensures regular contact is maintained with the families allocated to their team.

The Family Support Team
Consists of a social worker, family support worker and the senior activities play specialist. They in conjunction with their regular duties, coordinate the sibling, transition and bereavement support groups.

Physiotherapist

Our physiotherapists offer a comprehensive therapy service and are able to see the child/young person go through their daily routines at the hospice and so can advise on correct positioning, manual handling and suitable equipment. They will always endeavour to find the most appropriate bed/cot/mattress/ cot sides for each child/young person. They keep abreast of the latest equipment/developments by attending Naidex and liaising with other hospice physio’s throughout the country.

The physiotherapists liaise with the community/school physiotherapists and other relevant professionals and thus are able to identify and continue the therapy needs of the child/young person whilst they are staying at Claire House. Respiratory needs are catered for and the physiotherapists train Claire House staff to provide appropriate therapy when required.

Music Therapist
Offers a unique and intimate opportunity for any child or young person to express themselves through music.
