All rooms have en suite facilities. Families can choose whether to join everyone else for meals or do their own thing.
Teen Room
The teen room is a spacious contemporary room, designed with teenagers in mind. It has French doors opening to its own enclosed garden, which is easily accessible for wheelchairs. The room is large enough for three beds to fit side by side, so that the young people can enjoy flat screen TV, DVD, WII, X-BOX and play station. It also comprises of a fixed computer work station with internet facilities.
Lounge
The Lounge is situated in a quieter aspect of the hospice; this is also a spacious room with easy wheelchair access and room for a bed. This room is used for quiet time, reading stories, chilling with a DVD and families enjoying time together.
Dining Room
Meal times are a social occasion when families and staff come together to enjoy our freshly cooked food. We can cater for any special dietary requirements – just let us know beforehand!
Fun & Faith Room
This is a multifunctional room used for any religious prayers or services and for musical sessions and quiet times. It is a fantastic round room with incredible acoustics where the children can have fun and make lots of noise doing it. It is where our music therapist works with the children / young people, we also have impromptu group music sessions where the children and staff can pretend they are auditioning for X factor!
Music enables children who have difficulty expressing themselves to let their emotions come out, whatever they may be.
Multi-sensory room
The multi-sensory room is an interactive, stimulating environment where children can relax on the water bed. The different lights and sounds encourage the children.
Art room / activities
We have recently opened our new art room which has a fantastic new electric table which caters for all wheelchair sizes. Primary coloured tiles and blinds create an interesting and stimulating environment where children and young people who visit the hospice can have fun whilst stimulating their senses.
We have themed days throughout the year! Our "Hawaiian day" is a favourite – mango, strawberry and lime massage, tastes of coconut and pineapple with sands and water to dip our toes into.
Little Bear our PAT dog comes to visit us every week. The children enjoy taking him for walks in the garden and become very excited when he woofs at them to say goodbye.
We have a new sensory garden where Rosemary, Thyme, Sage and Lavender fill the air with beautiful smells. The trickle of the fountain and the sound of raindrops on the thatched roof gazebo give a peaceful place for children and parents to enjoy the garden.
Our playground caters for all needs. The brightly coloured swing and roundabout which are wheelchair friendly, enables children of all abilities to play together.
Hydrotherapy
Our lovely warm hydro pool and Jacuzzi provide an opportunity for therapy, rest, relaxation and most importantly - fun! Children and their families can enjoy a swim together and are always accompanied by staff members on a 1:1 basis, with a carer or more pool side. The pool has a therapeutic effect increasing the blood flow and thus enabling muscle fibres to relax.
Butterfly Suite
The Butterfly Suite has been designed to allow us to care for a child/young person after death, should the family wish for them to remain with us until the funeral.
There are two special bedrooms which are similar to the other bedrooms at Claire House with a lounge and private garden. Families are free to come and go as they wish and are welcome to bring personal items such as photographs, posters, toys and bed linen into the room. This facility can be used whether the child has died at Claire House, in hospital or at home, it can also be used following a post mortem or after organ donation has taken place.
The room is kept cool with a simple cooling system which families are shown and allows the room to maintain a level temperature. Using this room enables family and friends to spend time saying goodbye.
